UL is notifying consumers and battery pack retailers, distributers, hoverboard manufacturers and others that the four hoverboard battery packs shown below bear counterfeit UL Marks. The battery packs have not been evaluated by UL to any Standard for Safety and it is unknown if they comply with any safety requirements.
UL does not recommend that hoverboards be disassembled in an attempt to identify the battery pack. Disassembling the hoverboard may expose the user to electric shock or other hazards. As of the date of this notice, UL has not certified any hoverboards for safety. No hoverboards or hoverboard battery packs should be marked with the UL Mark. (UL Notice Apr. 8, 2016)
