A Hanoi police investigation discovered a large amount of canned corn originating in China but displaying counterfeit Del Monte labels to dupe consumers into believing that they are purchasing Del Monte products from the U.S. and Japan.
The law firm of Pham & Associates confirmed that the California-based Del Monte Foods company does not have any relation with the seized counterfeit products.
The counterfeit "Del Monte" Gold and White Corn product comes with a gold-colored cap, while the authentic Del Monte product is silver. The counterfeit product is of poor quality and dents easily, a defect that does not guarantee the integrity of the contents.
Hanoi Police Officers raided a warehouse where 1,412 cans of the counterfeit Del Monte corn was discovered. The products had labels claiming they were canned in the U.S.
Officers also confiscated 2,500 fake Del Monte labels and cartons. All of the confiscated products, as well as the packaging and labels are fake and were made in China said Hanoi economic police.
Non of the counterfeit Del Monte corn products have been reported in the US.
