Maine State Police have taken action against a counterfeiting operation producing high-quality, counterfeit Maine Vehicle Inspection Stickers.
State Police seized counterfeit Maine Inspection Stickers dating back to 2010 from a Lewiston home, and arrested a man in connection with the counterfeiting operation. State Police say the man is facing felony forgery charges.
Police suspect that hundreds, and possibly thousands of the stickers were sold for $100 each or more to owners of cars that likely would be deemed unsafe and taken off the road.
