How to identify counterfeit US Postal Service Stamps
US Postal Service: Stamps
Product Information:
Federal investigators reported thousands of US Lady Liberty and U.S. Flag stamps were counterfeited and sold to convenience stores in Buffalo and Lackawanna New York. The investigation dates back three years. Postal inspectors pointed out that if you use a fake stamp, your mail could be delayed if seized by the US postal service as evidence.
U.S. Postal Inspectors will not say how they were able to detect the fraudulent stamps, but in working with the FBI and Homeland Security agents they were able to find and arrest the source.
The investigation revealed that the suspect was selling 100 stamp rolls, normally selling for $44, for just $25 a roll. The stamps, sold to retail convenience stores were then resold to other stores and unsuspecting buyers.
