The Counterfeit Report receives a number a reports from our users believing that Duracell battery packages bearing the pink Duracell bunny are counterfeit. So many in fact, we felt the issue deserved its own page and explanation.
A representative from Duracell clears up the issue; "Duracell batteries with the pink bunny are European manufactured Duracell batteries and are not counterfeit."
Wikipedia offers the following explanation; The Duracell Bunny does not appear in North America, due to Energizer filing a trademark claim for the marketing use of a "battery bunny" in the United States and Canada. The Duracell Bunny was originally trademarked for use in the U.S. and other countries. Duracell failed to renew its U.S. trademark of the bunny and as a result, lost it. Energizer, seeing an opportunity, trademarked a new bunny for its use.
This is not to say that the pink bunny can not, or does not appear on counterfeit Duracell batteries, so be very cautious. Duracell batteries with the pink bunny are not intended for marketing in the US or Canada and are grey market if sold in the US or Canada. They may or may not be counterfeit.
Duracell has not confirmed or denied the authenticity of the battery package images shown on this page.
